The Booker Award!!

Once again I have been graced with another blogging award.  I can’t say I ever expected to get any awards with the shit I write, so I am surprised and grateful to be the recipient of so many.  This latest award came from Michael over at Dadicus Grinch.  I was very surprised to find Michael’s blog appealing.  I hope that didn’t come off sounding bad, but its true and in my opinion a compliment.  I guess I should explain this before it becomes offensive 🙂

I am kind of an ass when it comes to reading others blogs.  I tend to stick to blogs that are short and to the point and don’t have long posts.  To be honest I usually get caught up on my reading during my alone time in the bathroom (if you get my drift).  If I were to read really long posts all the time I would never leave the bathroom, and I would like to add that I have sometimes lost track of time reading Michael’s posts.  Although some of them are longer than I like, I find myself reading them one after another and I attribute that to his amazing writing style.  He is great at what he does, and I can honestly say that I would read anything he put in front of me from start to finish.  I am humbled that a writer of his magnitude has given me the time of day and even more so that he gave me this award.  Sir you are an amazing writer, a great follower and one hell of a human being (even if you do look like the “lovechild of McDonald’s Mayor McCheese and Mrs. Potato Head”)

So back to this award!  The award Michael bestowed upon me is:

One of the key parts to this award is to of course thank the person who gave it to you (please see above) and then to share books you have read that have had a monumental impact on your life.  I for one love the idea of this because there are quite a few books that I hold very dear to my heart.  Here they are in no particular order.

I love Kevin Smith more than anyone person should and I am proud of that.  I am a die hard fan of everything he does, but that has no bearing on why I love this book.  This is one of the most honest books I have ever read and also the most inspiring.  Kevin takes you on a journey through his life and at the end leaves you feeling like you could be the “next best thing.”  He makes it OK to be “just some guy from Jersey” looking to make his mark on the world.  The book starts you off with laughter as he dedicates it to his wife’s ass, and brings you to tears at the end with a letter written to him by his daughter.

This was a great find!!  I have always liked the comedy styling of Leary and when I found out he wrote this book I immediately ran out and bought it.  I was shocked to find it as informative and educated as it was.  That sounds bad again.  Leary may be a comical genius, but the guy is also very educated on the happening of the world.  This is a must read for anyone, and I mean ANYONE!!

There are several reasons I love Walt Whitman.  First and foremost his writings touch me in a way that very few authors are capable of.  Secondly, he’s a Jersey guy!!  I was introduced to WW while watching what would be one of my all time favorite movies, “Dead Poets Society.”  That movie had quoted some of WW’s poetry and from that moment on I was sold.  Click here for one of my favs.

My brother Scott gave me this book and I have read it front to back several times over.  It is probably the most influential book I have ever read and should be read by all.  I found this book to be more about the the complexity of the human race than it was about making friends but either way it was a great read.

To be honest I have never read this book.  I have tried to so many times, but I can’t even pick it up.  This was my Brother Scott’s favorite book and the copy I have was his personal book.  He loved this book and was often heard quoting it.  I have promised myself that I would at some point read it, but just can’t do it yet.  The reason I have included it on this list is quite simple.  My brother was my hero and if this was that important to him then it must be a masterpiece.  He read more books than you could find in any Barnes and Noble and yet he always went back to this one.

There you have it folks.  These are the books I have read (or will read) that have had a profound impact on my life.  Now lets get to the fun part of this award!!

I would like to nominate these amazing bloggers:

Richly Bizarre:  LOVE LOVE LOVE this blog!  She is just a very down to earth girl trying to do the best she can.  From her posts and her Tweets you can tell she is an amazing person and an even better mom.  I am so honored that she follows me on here and twitter and I look forward to our future conversations.

VAGENDA VIXEN:  I guess I am a little biased about this one because she wrote a beautiful piece that featured yours truly in it, but she deserves the recognition.  She is a phenomenal blogger and I for one am happy to see her posting again.

Sex, Spirit, Soul Mates and Chocolate….Ivonne’s Journey:  To quote Ivonne,”This blog is where you will find pieces of my soul, my heart, my mind and hopefully my humor.”

My Right To Bitch:  People this one is a fucking keeper!  A little while back he had made mention that he was “an infant” in the blogging world.  After following him for a bit now, its clear he is a full grown blogger!  Great posts and an even better dictionary.

The Life of an Idiot:  This kids got the goods!  He is “Superman in training” and a talented writer to boot.  He’s a young guy on the verge of greatness and you should all tag along for the ride.

Before I go I would just like to thank you all for reading and following Talkin’ Shit.  For whatever reason you guys love this blog so please take my word for it when I tell you the blogs listed above are better than mine and deserve all the readership they can get.  They are all very talented and have my complete backing!!
