I have had some type of job since I was 14 years old, and no matter what the job there was always one thing I expected from my coworkers…TEAMWORK.  It has never made any sense to me when I see the “every man for himself” attitude in the work place.  That type of attitude will not only set you up to fail, but will also ultimately cause others to fail as well.

I work in a place that stresses teamwork from the moment you’re hired and yet people only care about themselves.  I see it on a daily basis and it really saddens me because it didn’t used to be like this.  I came into this company 7 years ago and it didn’t feel like I was being “hired” it felt like I was joining a family.  I was so impressed by the way everyone worked together and had each other’s backs.  Now all I see are a bunch of people trying to make a buck, no matter how many people they have to step on to get it.

Take phone calls.  At my job we get thousands of phone calls a day, and for the most part they are pretty standard.  Just about every other call is from someone who is asking to talk to a manager and about 90% of those people really don’t need to speak with a manager to have their problem resolved.  When I answer one of those calls I always ask, “Is there anything I can help you with?”  9 out of 10 times the person says yes, so I help them and move on without the managers even knowing someone called to speak with them.  Why do I do this?  TEAMWORK!  If I can help them without having to pull a manager away from their job, shouldn’t I do it?  It just seems like common sense to me and yet so many other people refuse to do it.  I am so tired of hearing, “Managers get paid more than me so why should I do their work?”  Because we are a fucking team you piece of shit!!!

Something happened today that really pissed me off.  I came into work and was told that a customer that doesn’t like me came into the store and told an associate and a manager that they wanted to tell me to “go fuck myself.”  Now first off I don’t care what the bitter person thinks or says about me.  I think its funny that they refuse to say it to my face.  Even when they have the opportunity to do so they quickly forget how to talk…fucking coward.  Anyway, when they told the associate and manager that, they all had a laugh and basically egged the customer on like it was the greatest thing ever.  I just don’t get it.  How do you sit there and laugh in front of other associates and customers while someone bashes one of your teammates?  What kind of message does that send to people?  I know for a fact other people heard this happen because several other people had come to me and said they saw it go down.  There are a couple of people I don’t get a long with at work  and there have been many opportunities for me to trash them in front of customers but I would never do that.  I have even gone so far as to tell customers that they were being inappropriate when they started saying nasty things about them.  No matter how I feel about that person, I am not going to let someone outside the “family” bash them in front of me.  Maybe its the way I was brought up, but I have always believed that you protect your own.

It doesn’t matter how I feel about you personally.  When I clock in I see you as my teammate, a person in which I may need to call upon to help me out at some point during the day.  I would hope others saw that in me as well.  I will be flat out honest, I can think of 2 people I work with almost every day that I fucking hate with all the fire of the sun, and trust me the feeling is mutual.  No matter how much I hate them I still converse with them and will help them with anything they need throughout the day.  Unfortunately I can’t say the same for them.  They don’t communicate, they don’t ask for help, and they tell everyone how much they dislike me.  Its so childish.  We are all grown ass adults and yet they treat this place of business like a damn daycare.  Change your fucking diaper, wipe your damn nose and start being part of the team instead of trying to split everyone up.

Together Everyone Achieves More!  Isn’t that what its supposed to be all about?

This is why I could never succeed in an office environment. I tried a couple of times, but I just couldn’t play all the childish games. For the last 30 years I’ve worked with children, and believe me, many of them are more mature than adults. Love your posts.

I was let go from my job a year ago because of stupid immature people such as the ones you speak of. I was always taught to respect your job and do the best you can (even if it isn’t your career choice.) While i did my best, others became shit talkers, lazy asses, or dumb f***s. While i tried my best to motivate and listen to these people, they were too busy waiting for their commision checks to come in. Most people take jobs for granted and that frustrated me the most. While gaining a friend is a nice bonus, working with these a-holes wasn’t. It sucks knowing that the hard worker is always the first to be let go.

That really does suck. I came into my present location because the one I used to work at was closed so they could renovate it. I walked into a place that already had its cliques in place and people looked at me like the outsider. I have since been at this location for over 2 years now and while most have excepted me there are still a few that think I am a “lower class” because I wasn’t there as long as them. I really don’t give a shit. I am there to do what is asked of me so I can get the check to pay my bills.

  4. Great attitude..I wish more people thought this way…sigh….
