Respect It People! Part II

Well it seems that either my writing is too awful for people to understand me or there are just some confused people out there.  Either way I would like to clear up a few points from Respect It People! that I feel have gotten lost along the way.  Soon after I posted it I was bombarded with people basically calling me a racist and more or less an asshole.  Asshole is probably a fair statement, but racist it just plain ridiculous.  Anyone that knows me, knows that I am nowhere near racist.  Its actually so insane that I am not going to spend another second defending it.

I am not going to rehash the whole post here, but the point I was making about people complaining and/or disrespecting this country and the flag is where it ended.  I was in no way saying that I want all immigrants to leave the country and that they are horrible for America.  What was said is that I hate when ILLEGAL immigrants are the ones that are complaining and bashing this country.  It was also stated that I place this anger on American citizens as well.  It is my honest opinion that citizens that do nothing but complain and never once lift a finger to fix the problems they are complaining about are just being lazy assholes.  So many times I hear people complain about the policies of this country, but the second I ask if they voted, they always say no.  God I hate that shit!

It has been implied that myself or others like me haven’t had to struggle to get here, or work bad jobs for little money,  and a few other things.  I will never speak for anyone else because I feel people have their own voices to do just that.  When it comes to me, there is no doubt I have struggled.  I came from a very poor family.  There was a time we lived in a car for a while.  My brother and I were in and out of foster homes till my parents could find a home for us to live in.  I have worked a lot of horrible jobs that took their toll on my body while I was earning little money.  I lived lawfully and because I was so poor people treated me like I was nonexistent.  With all of that did I ever once complain about America?  FUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKK NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Was my life miserable for a long time?  YUP!!  There is no doubt about it.  What kept me going through the years was 4 simple words. THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.  I have always understood that this country wasn’t going to just hand me the keys to the kingdom because I was born here.  If I wanted to move ahead in this country it would be on the back of hard work and determination.

Enough about me.  I would like to tell you a story about a guy I worked with 7 years ago.  He was a Haitian gentleman who had been in this country for many years.  Just about everyday I worked with him he had his head in a book studying for his citizenship test.  One day he came to work with the biggest smile on his face and began to cry as he told me he passed his test.  The amount of pride and emotion he showed was amazing.  It made me feel great as an American that someone not born in this country could love it as much as he did.  Its people like him that I have the utmost respect for.

As for the the American flag, I’ll listen to everyone debate how freedom of speech protects people who wish to burn it or otherwise desecrate it, but my mind will never be changed.  The American flag is a symbol of our country.  It stands for all the people that have fought to keep this country free (and yeah we are free).  It is something that every American or person calling America their home should show pride in.

Well that is all I have to say so I hope this post isn’t as confusing as others seemed to the think the last one was.
